Netherland Dwarf RabbitsChinchillas, Black Silver Martens, Chestnuts |
![]() |
We are a small rabbitry of about 30 holes(hutches), located in Kentwood, Michigan, which is on the West Side of the state near Grand Rapids. We have just recently returned to raising rabbits but are committed to developing excellent silver martens, chins and chestnuts. We are grateful for the help of Criss Bieling, Lesa Rose, and Ralph Sturgill for getting us started with good rabbits and great advice.
My family came from the Netherlands 3 generations ago. We were "from the Heide", which as near as I can tell, is an area similar to a meadow. Enjoy browsing our site. The links include some websites that we have found helpful.
News
As the weather gets cold, my does are less interested in breeding. I currently have about six does that I breed: black silver marten, chinchilla, and chestnut. I had one litter at the beginning of December. Looks like I will have one black silver marten and maybe a blue. I will have to wait a bit to see how the color develops. I have been getting some different colors this past fall. I have a couple of nice squirrel does out of two chin rabbits, and a chocolate chestnut!. The coloring looks good on the squirrels, so I am hopeful the nails don't turn. Fortunately, my ratio of does to bucks has been running about 2 or 3 to 1.
On the cold, windy nights we've been having, I can only get my little barn up to about 50 degrees F. The babies survive because of nest box warmers that I use in addition to the electric oil heater. I hope to have news of many more good kits by the time Spring is here. Good luck to all of you who are raising dwarfs. See you in the Spring.
