Heide's Hutches

Netherland Dwarf Rabbits

Chinchillas, Black Silver Martens, Chestnuts

We are a small rabbitry of about 30 holes(hutches), located in Kentwood, Michigan, which is on the West Side of the state near Grand Rapids. We have just recently returned to raising rabbits but are committed to developing excellent silver martens, chins and chestnuts. We are grateful for the help of Criss Bieling, Lesa Rose, and Ralph Sturgill for getting us started with good rabbits and great advice.

My family came from the Netherlands 3 generations ago. We were "from the Heide", which as near as I can tell, is an area similar to a meadow. Enjoy browsing our site. The links include some websites that we have found helpful.

News

Mid-summer seems like a slow time. I was extremely busy with work and other activities and missed most of the Spring shows. I'm hoping to make it to a couple of summer shows and then more in the Fall. I currently have a couple litters of growing, healthy dwarfs. I have gotten some brown silver marten animals in the last couple litters from a mating of a Rick Smith buck and doe. I love the black silver marten colors. I also love the chinchillas. One nestbox has three beautiful (3 week old) chins plus a chestnut that I fostered to the mother. The little buggers are cute as can be. I am not able to breed as much as I'd like because of space and time limitations. This can make the whole endeavor more difficult when the does turn up unreceptive, etc. But things are going well at the current time and I am hopeful I'll be able to make more Fall shows with at least a couple rabbits. My grandson is hoping to start showing some of his chestnuts.
